Reeves Thoroughbred Racing’s Mucho Macho Man breezed three furlongs at Gulfstream Park early Saturday morning, marking his first workout since capturing the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita on Nov. 2.

The 5-year-old son of Macho Uno was timed in 37 3/5 seconds with regular exercise rider Nick Petro Jr. aboard.

“We just let him stretch his legs out a little bit,” trainer Kathy Ritvo said. “He was off the rail. It went good.”

Ritvo, owners Dean and Patti Reeves and stable manager Finn Green had announced earlier in the week that Mucho Macho Man would remain in training for the 2014 racing season, with a possible first start at Gulfstream Park.

The Florida-bred horse, who defeated Will Take Charge by a nose in the Classic after prepping with a 4 1/4 victory in the Awesome Again (G1) at Santa Anita, showed his trainer all the right signs during his morning activity.

“He was very happy. He was bouncing around,” said Ritvo, who expects her Classic winner to breeze again next Saturday.
