Jwala upset the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes field at odds of 40-1 on Friday, scoring herself a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November. The Robert Cowell trainee defeated top sprinters Shea Shea and Sole Power in the effort, taking charge inside the final furlong and holding off closing foes.

Steve Drowne was in the irons for the win, making the victory particularly sweet, as he recently returned to the saddle after suffering from health problems last year.

Jwala won a listed event last month but was the last of 17 after a slow start and fractured her eye socket from knock on the head in her most recent prep for the Nunthorpe.

Jwala is the daughter of Oasis Dream and Indian Ridge mare Kangra Valley, and was bred in Great Britain by Manor Farm Stud.
