The Stronach Group today named Mike Rogers President and Tim Ritvo Chief Operating Officer of its Racing Division, effective immediately.

Rogers has over 28 years experience in the Horse Racing Industry. Prior to the appointment as President, Rogers was Vice President of The Stronach Group, Racing Division.

Ritvo has been President and General Manager of Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino since July 2011 and was a prominent jockey and racing official at Suffolk Downs in the 1980s before establishing himself in the 1990s as a leading Florida trainer. Ritvo has also served as Vice President and Director of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association.

“The Stronach Group has set itself apart in the horse racing industry as a company committed to the betterment of all of its stakeholders, including horsemen, jockeys and fans,” Rogers said. “I look forward to working together with our partners in the industry to tackle the challenges we collectively face.”

“It is a privilege to deepen my involvement with Frank Stronach and the broader Stronach Group”, Ritvo remarked. “I am excited to apply some of the measures we have successfully implemented at Gulfstream Park – which has become one of the premier entertainment facilities in the country – to the other Stronach Group racetracks.”

Frank Stronach, Chairman of The Stronach Group, stated, “Mike Rogers and Tim Ritvo are recognized by the horse community as being the best in the business. It gives me great pleasure to appoint them to their new positions.”

The Stronach Group is a privately-held consortium that owns, operates and manages a number of leading businesses in a wide range of industries, including: Thoroughbred racing and gaming; Thoroughbred horse breeding; agriculture; electric vehicle technologies; and medical technologies. Great to see good horsemen in positions where their knowledge can improve the game for everyone, including the horses.

Frank has finally chosen two solid guys to lead his operation.  Congratulations to Tim and Mike.  You are both good for your organization and good for the industry.

Mike Rogers has done nothing to help the horse industry in Maryland, which is a shame. I used to believe he might help Stronach understand how he was destroying Md’s breeding industry. After sitting through several Commission meetings with Rogers, I have concluded that he is only a yes man for the boss. Sad, really.

    “Horsemen, jockeys and fans” .

Notice “fans” Are at the bottom of the list.

Also, fans should be changed to customers.

Fan is short for ‘fanatic’. The definition of fanatic in Merriam Websters is: “marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion”

Now, if tracks and upper management view all their customers as “fans” they can view them as people who won’t think critically when it comes to that person’s desire to wager into excessive takeout rates.

I think that many of us believe that upper management in racetracks around our great land often view horseplayers as people who have uncontrollable urges to gamble and while very few actually care about the rates they are paying to wager, most don’t care at all. Currently, racetrack higher ups believe the ‘urge’ to gamble is too powerful and gets in the way of customer’s logic.

Hopefully one day, horse racing can respect its “fans” as actual customers instead of just  ‘fanatics’ who will bet regardless of takeout rate.

R E S P E C T…something horseplayers have rarely gotten from the higher ups in the game.

Two more “guys” to go with the “Guy”. Perhaps a three man assault can save this shambles of a race track called Santa Anita. I won’t be holding my breath.
