A post at View from the Racetrack Grandstand addresses the report from Harnesslink that driver George Brennan has been banned from the Meadowlands.  The alleged reason for the ban handed down by Meadowlands operator Jeff Gural is because of comments Brennan made in regards to the suspension of trainer Lou Pena.  Brennan is quoted in the New York Times article about Pena’s suspension as saying Pena is being “thrown to the wolves” and “someone is out to get him.”

View from the Racetrack Grandstand writes: “Gural has his reasons for telling Brennan the ‘No Vacancy’ sign is up at the Meadowlands.  No doubt Brennan didn’t help his case by making these comments having abandoned the Meadowlands for Yonkers (Brennan had only twenty-two drives this year at the Big M).  It is safe to assume if someone like Andy Miller (just picking a name) made these comments, Miller would still be driving at the Meadowlands (perhaps after a sit down).”

SOUNDS LIKE “GURAL WARFARE” TO ME!

Tough spot for Mr Gural here.
On one hand, he needs to attract the best horses and horsemen to keep the Big M from becoming a minor league track and fading away into the sunset.
On the the other hand, he needs to protect his product (racing) and the betting public.
Kudos to Mr. G for taking the high road and keeping harness racing alive in NJ. I couldn’t imagine having no Meadowlands !

George brennan is being banned for speaking. No more meadowlands wagers. Usually you hear that somebody is accusesof doing  something wrong at or on the track. They investigate. Then they have a hearing .Then they make a decision.Who needs that let this MORON jeff gural   can just say you are out because i say so.This would save money for everyone.

The point is he might have an owner that wants him to drive in a big race. How would it be received if john velazquez couldn’t ride at churchill because he said something about kentucky basketball. This is nuts.

Protect the product. You don’t ban someone else for talking. Now everytime someone criticizes him or the big m peolple will say will he be banned? If not it will look like he is being prejudiced. If he had a brain he would sit down with brennan  and fix this stupid decision.

Agree, he should have talked to GB first. I have a feeling this will be sorted out soon and GB will be free to drive at the Big M although he now prefers Yonkers.
