Kentucky Downs in Franklin, KY will offer some of the richest daily purses in the country during its boutique five-date live racing season this September. And the big financial rewards are not just for horsemen, as the track will host a Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge qualifying handicapping tournament on Wednesday, September 18th.
This is an opportunity for horseplayers to showcase their handicapping skills in one of the year's most lucrative and exclusive live bankroll handicapping contests. The top handicapper from the September 18th contest will win an entry seat to the Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge where there's a cash prize pool up to $500,000.
The Grand Prize: The top handicapper from Kentucky Downs contest on September 18 receives an entry seat to the 2013 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge, to be held during the Breeders' Cup November 1st – 2nd at Santa Anita.(An entry seat in the event is a $10,000 value). Should any participant be so fortunate to win multiple BCBC entry fees or berths throughout the year, the berth earned in this tournament or any non-online tournament during 2013 may be transferred to another handicapper. This transfer is permitted because the BCBC tournament at Santa Anita allows only one entry per person.
During its five-date live racing meet in September (September 7,11,14,18 and 25) Kentucky Downs will offer 10 live races each day, with an average daily purse structure of $900,000. The richest race is the $400,000 Kentucky Turf Cup (G3), the centerpiece of Kentucky Downs Million Day on Sept. 14th.
The 1 1/2-mile race is for 3-year-olds and older horses. Four $150,000 stakes also will be run that day, when total purses for the card will reach $1,374,000.
