European super jockey Johnny Murtagh saddled his first winner as a trainer at Tramore on Saturday with a horse named Benbecula. Piloted by Ben Curtis, Benbecula came rolling home six lengths in front.
Murtagh maintains that he still has no plans to hang up his tack permanently and in fact, finished ninth aboard Roz in Friday's Investec Oaks.
When asked how training a winner compares to riding one, Murtagh told the Racing Post that “it's much the same feeling, but probably more satisfying as a trainer. You're part of the horses for so long. You know how hard it is to get them to the races and when you get them to the races there's so much that has to go right.”
