France Galop announced Tuesday that the 2013 edition of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Fr-I, French 2,000 Guineas) will get a bump in purse money and will be run for €550,000 (approximately $713,000).
That is a €100,000 increase for the race, which is scheduled to be contested May 12 at Longchamp. French racing officials have been worried that the race might be downgraded, after the European Pattern Committee expressed concern that recent editions of the race have not been worthy of Group 1 status.
