Churchill Downs Inc. Chairman Bob Evans announced Thursday that the company is likely to drop the non-refundable $50 fee charged to anyone who wanted to purchase tickets to the Kentucky Derby, reports the Courier-Journal. For the 2012 running, all ticket applicants were charged a $50 fee and the money was not refunded even if they were unsuccessful in obtaining tickets.

In response to criticism of the fee from fans, Churchill Downs officials are looking at a new plan for ticketing for the 2013 edition of the Kentucky Derby, said Evans.

Track president Kevin Flannery said an announcement of the ticketing process for next year’s Derby would likely come this fall.

“In response to complaints from fans about the fee….” Hmm…what did they think was going to happen? People would just thank them for basically stealing money from them in return for nothing??
