Arizona Department of Gaming investigates illegal race track
Authorities raided a suspected unlicensed horse racing operation near Picacho this past weekend as part of an investigation by the Arizona Department of Gaming, reports AzCentral.com. The homemade straight-away track had rails, a starting gate and anywhere from 100-300 people in attendance. People attending the races paid a $10 entry fee. The horses involved were unharmed and returned to their owners.
Possible violations of various state gambling statutes include conducting a criminal enterprise, promoting gambling, benefiting from gambling, and possession of gambling devices.
