A cross country trip, a two-man stroll from Lexington to Louisville and a 50-person relay from Keeneland to Churchill Downs…what do these three things have in common? They are all ways the Paulick Report and Breeders’ Cup Charities have teamed up over the last three years to raise nearly $250,000 for several great causes in combination with Thoroughbred racing’s annual World Championships!

The Breeders’ Cup and the Paulick Report have decided to join forces once more for Breeders’ Cup or Bust, this year adding Children Mending Hearts to their other designated charities: the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and Thoroughbred Charities of America. But while Paulick Report publisher Ray Paulick and president Brad Cummings are as fit as ever, another walking trip is not in order.

Instead, Breeders’ Cup or Bust will be calling on the skills developed by Brad Cummings’ first career as a musical theatre actor as he sings the National Anthem at three of America’s top racetracks. Cummings will be performing Oct. 25th at Lexington’s Keeneland Race Course, Oct. 26th at Oklahoma City’s Remington Park and Nov. 2nd at Santa Anita Race Track in Los Angeles, California for Friday’s opening day of the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

“When I first started taking voice lessons as a teenager, I dreamed of Broadway lights,” said Cummings. “I never in a million years believed I would have the opportunity to sing at these beautiful racetracks. And to honor three great charities in doing so? It doesn’t get a whole lot better than that!”

Paulick, Cummings and Paulick Report editor-in-chief Scott Jagow will also be traveling across country, taking in the sites and sounds of Americana along historic Route 66 including the hometown of Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith and an equine retirement farm that receives support from the TCA. Fans can follow the action at www.paulickreport.com.

“I first heard Brad ‘perform’ during our drive from Kentucky to California for the first Breeders’ Cup or Bust as he sang along with Broadway show tunes on a satellite radio network, mostly to keep both of us awake,” said Paulick. “Turns out he actually has some chops, and this is a fun way to blend Brad’s passion for music with our efforts to raise money for these very worthy causes.”

“For the fourth consecutive year, we are very pleased to partner with Ray and Brad in their efforts to call attention and raise money for such outstanding causes as Children Mending Hearts, Thoroughbred  Charities of America and the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund,” said Breeders’ Cup President and CEO Craig Fravel. “Breeders’ Cup or Bust has become an important part of Breeders’ Cup Charities and look forward to another successful year of fundraising.”

Man, the headline had me worried. I thought it meant that Ray was going to be singing the national anthem in order to raise money!
