Del Mar has seen a significant spike in attendance in recent years, thanks in part to its Summer Concert Series. The shows, which this year include the B-52's, Sammy Hagar, and Weezer, take place after the races on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings.
By raising ticket prices for fans who come after the races are over, Del Mar has encouraged concert goers to at least get a taste of racing first. The series has paid noticeable dividends, not only by drawing new people and a younger crowd to racing, but also by luring advertisers. In this edition of Del Mar Diaries, Ray Paulick and Scott Jagow find out what it's all about.
