Padua Stables’ Odysseus is off the Triple Crown trail after coming out of Saturday’s Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes with a chip in the back of his left front knee, according to Satish Sanan.

The son of Malibu Moon led for the first six furlongs but faded to last of the nine runners in the nine-furlong Blue Grass, held over Keeneland’s Polytrack surface. The Tom Albertrani-trained colt came into the race with three wins in four starts, including a narrow victory March 13 in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby.

Odysseus was lame the morning after the Blue Grass and X-rays detected the bone chip.
