Prairie Meadows Press Release:

Alsvid made jockey Terry Thompson’s fourth win of the night an easy one on Saturday.

Alsvid shot past Wildcat Country at the top of the stretch and rocketed to a 7-length victory in Saturday’s $60,000 Golden Circle Stakes at Prairie Meadows. He was the fourth winner on Saturday for Thompson, who also won three races on Friday’s opening night.

“Everything’s going great,” Thompson said. “A meet always goes how you start it off. If you get a good start, it carries to the end, if you struggle it seems like the whole rest of the meet is a struggle. It’s gone great.”

The 3-5 favorite, Alsvid won for the fourth time in six career races. He stalked the pace-setters and went wide on the turn, before sling-shotting into the lead as the field straightened for home. He ran the 6 furlongs in 1:10.09.

“I kind of spread the turn (went wide) a little bit, but I had so much horse that I wanted when it was time to go, that he had clear running. It worked out just how Chris (trainer) Hartman and I thought.”

Alsvid had previous won the $75,000 Clever Trevor Stakes and was third in the $100,000 Riley Allison Futurity and fourth in the $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes. He went to the front in those races, but now the emphasis  is to conserve his speed as he stretches out in distance. His next race will be the Prairie Mile.

“We have to see if he can go two turns (one mile),” Hartman said. “We know he’s a good sprinter.”
