Ron Anderson, agent for jockey Joel Rosario, said the rider was ‘hangin in’ Sunday morning, less than 48 hours after suffering a broken foot in a spill at Saratoga that prevented him from riding the Travers Day card there on Saturday and Pacific Classic Day at Del Mar today.

Rosario, who was to ride Tigah in the Del Mar Mile Handicap, Goldencents in the Pat O’Brien and Game On Dude in the Pacific Classic, was unseated in Friday’s seventh race at Saratoga when his mount, Casual Elegance, stumbled past the finish line and either kicked or stepped on Rosario. The nation’s leading rider who notched his first Kentucky Derby victory in May aboard Orb, Rosario is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.

“He was having such a monumental season,” Anderson said. “It was shocking to both of us because it was one of those falls that you didn’t think looked that bad. But when you get kicked or stepped on … it could have been worse if it was in a different place. His spirits are OK. It’s part of the game.”
