Churchill Downs played host to a terrific night of racing on June 16, when they featured the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) and three additional graded stakes.

The Louisville Courier-Journal’s Jennie Rees writes in her latest blog that not only were there four great races, but several strange occurrences that night. In addition to John Velazquez suffering injuries in a three-horse spill in the ninth race, but paddock judge Sue Brewster miraculously escaped serious injury when she was hit from behind by an outrider’s horse.

“I’m one sore sucker, but I didn’t break anything,” Brewster said Sunday by phone after undergoing four hours of tests to determine if she had any fractures, internal injuries or a concussion. “I got whacked.”
