Corey Nakatani gets 5th win on card with Western Aristocrat Corey Nakatani gets 5th win on card with Western Aristocrat

After a year on the East Coast, jockey Corey Nakatani will be moving back to Southern California to ride full time.

Agent Brian Beach confirmed that Nakatani had contacted him about the move, and had asked him to be his agent. While Nakatani has enjoyed success while riding in New York, he missed his family, which didn’t make the move with him.

Nakatani plans on being back out in California in time to ride the last week of the Betfair Hollywood Park meet in order to be ready for the Del Mar summer meet, which begins July 18.

“He’s a great rider,” said Beach, “and on top of his game. With Joel Rosario leaving (for New York), he thought he would fit in out here.”

Wasn’t Ron Anderson his agent back east?

What happened to riding first call for Steve Assmussen?????????? I understand wanting to be with family but Joel Rosario will certainly return to California for Santa Anita in December. No way Rosario stays on East Coast or goes to Gulfstream in winter. Anyway best of luck to Corey.

Asmussen takes an extra % of in the money finishes., which leaves less $ for the jock.  This is fact.  Guessing here is Asmussen thinks its a “luxury” to ride his horses and that’s why he takes an additional piece for himself.

not so fast . ramon domingez has a field day in ny in the winter.  with all that money available you can sure buy lots of long underware.

  • Five2three

NY has  a lot of money to keep JR warm in the winter. CA racing is dead.

He’s been taking a kickback from his riders for a long time, but it doesn’t take much to figure out that paying to ride for a 14% trainer isn’t exactly a good business decision. When he used to hit around 25% at the Churchill spring meet and win all the MSW and 2 year old stakes it was one thing. But Asmussen dosen’t have the stock or the numbers anymore to justify getting any extra from the jocks and Nakatani probably saw the writing on the wall.

Steve might be taking a kickback from the jock. I don’t know, and I am not sure you do either, however that’s not the point. What is the point is that the “extra % of in the money finishes” that you refer to does NOT leave less money for the jock. Steve puts that on his bill! The jock’s does NOT get less money because Steve charges more. The jock’s money is withheld from the purse money won by the racetrack.
