Miniature horses from Florida’s Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses are on the road to Connecticut to work with those affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings. The horses will rely on donated transportation and accommodations during their stay in Newtown, where they will visit children, families, and emergency personnel.
“They said they wanted their children to have dreams of minis and not monsters,” said organization founder Debbie Garcia-Bengochea.
Among the group of four tiny helpers is Magic, who has won awards from Time magazine, AARP, and others for the effects her comforting presence has had on the sick and elderly. Therapy animals have been shown to provide physical and emotional stress relief to those coping with trauma.

This is totally awesome! Kudos to the connections of these minis for doing this wonderful deed. The children and residents of Newtown will love being around these tiny creatures.

Zoar Ridge Stables and Rescue has been there from Day One.  Zoar Ridge is located in Newtown.  They also have family and friends who lost children in this terrible, awful tragedy.  Children from Sandy Hook have been invited free of charge to come and ride, pet or just watch the Zoar Ridge horses.  EAGALA (equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning certification body) certified counselors, at least one of whom lives in the area, are also involved in the Zoar Ridge efforts. God Bless them all.

How wonderful it is to know there are compasionate people out there willing to give their time to these wounded people. It is so difficult at sometimes understand the pain these families are going through at the loss of these beautiful children. Especially around the Christmas season when they should be celebratiing with their babies and that is exactily who they still are. God bless all these good people. And I wish them in time comfort and peace.

What a wonderful idea. Minis are the very best medicine, along with Golden Retrievers, of course.

What a comfort to these children after such an awful experience.  This will bring lots of joy back into their lives.  Thank you for letting us know about this loving gesture.  Bless and keep you safe in your travels.

This is wonderful…animals somehow talk to children without speaking…and these little horses will be a source of wonder and a great diversion for the children.  Give thanks for this act of kindness in the face of the horrors these children experienced…

Dr. Wines–thank you for telling us about the local rescues.  I thought they would be involved in this needed therapy.  I pray that you and your colleagues who will work with these little ones will succeed beyond expectation.  Allaying their fears, their nightmares, their physical responses to this trauma–you are a critically needed first line of healing for these kids, as well as the love of their families.  Thank you again.

Great story which reflects the Christmas spirit all year long!

Horses and other animals are a great source of comfort in times of stress. What could be better than minis for the little kids.

Personally, when I go to the barn to do the unglamourous work, just the sound of the nickering makes all the cares and worries seem minor.

Here’s hoping the little children find some comfort in the horses.

What a beautiful gesture.  Those poor children have been through unspeakable horror and I can think of nothing better to brighten their spirits than mini horses.  God Bless everyone involved.

    An amen to that.
