On Nov. 13, Ritvo will celebrate the fifth anniversary of her heart transplant, which she underwent after years of suffering from serious cardiomyopathy. She hasn't let the experience slow her down—Mucho Macho Man took her to the Kentucky Derby in 2011, where she became the 14th woman to saddle a horse in the race.
She said she refuses to develop symptoms of rejection, and takes 31 pills a day to stave it off.
“I wouldn't have my life any other way,” Ritvo said. “I don't have bad days.”
