At age 21, Jose Contreras hit a pick six worth $65,904; if he wasn't already in love with racing from his childhood spent at Santa Anita Park, that experience sealed the deal. The America's Best Racing brand ambassador has covered Southern California racing for online media, including his own blog, and assisted Santa Anita with social media during his time in the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program.
Now, Contreras is looking forward to promoting horse racing in a positive light and attracting mainstream interest in the sport. He hopes that education and social media will be the key to attracting new fans, especially Millennials to the track.
“There is nothing like introducing new fans to this sport and watch their eyes light up once they ‘get it,' he said.
