Starship Truffles will be west for this year's Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint and will have veteran rider Gary Stevens in the irons, according to a report from trainer Marty Wolfson via the Daily Racing Form.
Summer Applause is also targeting the race after her runner-up effort to Emollient in the Spinster Stakes, according to conditioner Chad Brown. Dance Card will also be headed to the race, rather than the Distaff, which had also been under consideration for her. The trio is expected to face Sweet Lulu, Dance to Bristol, Book Review, and Teddy's Promise.
Wolfson told the Form‘s Marty McGee that he is uncertain whether Starship Truffles' stablemate My Pal Chrisy will be making the trip to California for the Filly & Mare Sprint. Both contenders will work out on the remaining two Saturdays before the race, which will determine the plans for My Pal Chrisy.
Florida contenders for the Breeders' Cup are struggling to make travel arrangements for the cross-country trip, as there are no more flights scheduled from Florida to Santa Anita. A Breeders' Cup official told the Form that organizers are working on flying the contenders together via Federal Express.
