Standout German sire Monsun, who died last year at the age of 22, showed once again why he will be sorely missed by scoring a Group 1 double Sunday at Longchamp.
His 3-year-old daughter Silasol earned the second Group 1 of her career with a determined short head victory in the Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Fr-I). The Wertheimer Bros.-homebred also won the Total Prix Marcel Boussac (Fr-I) last October.
Silasol is out of the stakes-winning Gulch mare, Stormina, and is from the immediate family of 2012 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) winner, Solemia.
Later on the card, Monsun's 5-year-old son Maxios finally notched his first Group 1 victory with a half-length win in the Prix d'Ispahan (Fr-I).
Maxios races as a homebred for the Niarchos Family, and is a half brother to champion Bago.
