Grade 3 winner Silver Medallion retired
Multiple Grade 3 Winner Silver Medallion has been retired. Silver Medallion sustained an injury to his Suspensory ligaments during a workout at Belmont park. The four year old son of Badge of Silver won the(G3) El Camino Real Derby and defeated older rivals in (G3) Tropical Park Turf Handicap as a three year old in 2011. This year as a four year old Silver Medallion once again found Graded stakes form in the (G3) Fort Lauderdale Handicap at Gulfstream Park. Silver Medallion retires having won Graded Stakes on both Synthetic and Turf with purses totaling $426,000. Silver Medallion, who is owned by Steven Marshall’s Black Rock Thoroughbreds LLC, was purchased privately after his impressive victory in the El Camino Real Derby. Steven Marshall said of his colt, ” Silver Medallion was great to us at Black Rock he provided us with a lot of excitement and joy. While, we are saddened by his retirement we are also disappointed by the fact that he was just reaching his full potential, and could have gone on to be one of the top turf horses in the country. He will be very comfortable and well taken care of while recovering at Black Rock farm in Versailles. We have yet to finalize our plans as to where Silver Medallion will stand at Stud but are fielding some offers and should have something complete in the weeks to come.”
