Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms announced today that Grade 1 Winner Madcap Escapade, who defeated Multiple Eclipse Champion and 7-time Grade 1 Winner Ashado in the 67th edition of the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes, died on Saturday, June 2nd of colic and will be buried on the farm. Owned by Bruce Lunsford and Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms, she has a yearling filly by Unbridled’s Song and weanling colt by Malibu Moon.

“We have retained an A.P. Indy filly out of Madcap Escapade who is unraced and in foal to War Front and will race her two-year-old colt by Unbridled’s Song,” said John G. Sikura, President of Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms.  “Madcap Escapade was a fantastic race mare and well on her way to becoming a great broodmare.  Her first foal, Mi Sueno, was a Grade 1 Winner.  We are terribly saddened by the loss.  She will be buried on the farm next to Hill ‘n’ Dale foundation mare Daijin.”

RIP Sweetheart and thank you so much for Mi Sueno. She is so beautiful and talented. I wish she was still racing.

At just eleven years old, sad she is gone at such a young age.  With seven wins in just nine starts, and over one million in career earning’s, R.I.P. Madcap Escapade…http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs11/i/200…

Oh, this is so sad.  Deepest condolences to all the connections.  I sympathize with the heartbreak.  I wish I could keep horses, and know how I feel about my dogs and cats, but one gets so close to these animals, even when they try not to.  The other day I watched the tape of I’ll Have Another getting a bath, and there’s one of his grooms, who must be at least 6’4″, spending most of the time kissing the top of his horse’s head.  And stories like Landaluce, dying prematurely with her head in Wayne Lukas’s arms.  Oh, that quote in Glenye Cain’s book–”they’re just so damn delicate”…

Maybe it’s better I don’t work with horses full-time like some of y’all do.  I’m too much of a tenderheart.

I know what people say about being “horse-crazy”, that you just can’t stay away.  But I am so sorry for things like this…great big prayers…RIP and God keep Madcap Escapade.
