Breeding plans have been made for reigning Horse of the Year Havre de Grace and Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Plum Pretty. Both mares were purchased for a combined $14.2 million by Mandy Pope’s Whisper Hill Farm in November.

According to an article in the Daily Racing Form, Havre de Grace is scheduled to visit top sire Tapit in 2013. “We did the genetic research on this end, and Tapit is the best cross for her,” said Wayne Sweezey, who along with his wife, Cathy, own Timber Town Stable in Lexington, where both mares are boarded.

Plum Pretty, a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, will be sent to Distorted Humor in 2013. “They are a lovely match physically, but more importantly, successful racehorses bred to Distorted Humor have significant infusion of La Troienne on the sire and dam’s side,” Sweezey said. “This cross does that.”

Tapit first gets Zenyatta this year and now another HOY next in Grace.  Yipeeee

Tapit is turning out to be a really prolific sire of G1 winners on the dirt, which is really all that matters to American breeders, and since he had a really good year at the sales this year, these decisions shouldn’t surprise anybody.
