Mike Hargrave worked as the director of stalls for Churchill Downs for 31 years and retired from the position in 2010. Now, two years later, he’s involved in racing again, this time as a jockey’s agent.

“It’s a lot tougher than I thought it would be,” said Hargrave in a column written by Jennie Rees for the Courier-Journal, “I’m pretty green. I’m relying a lot on the other agents and trainers to help, trying to learn as I go – learning the draw and trying to hustle business.”

Hargrave currently represents Oriana Rossi who rides in Kentucky and Indiana for most of the year. He began finding mounts for her Saturday and Rossi won her first race with Hargrave as her agent on Monday.
