STEVE SCHWARTZ RESIGNS TOC POSITION

As if California racing doesn’t have enough challenges, the very recently appointed President of the Thoroughbred Owners of California resigned abruptly today. Below is the press release of this bizarre happening.

Steve Schwartz Resigns TOC Position

Effective immediately, Steve Schwartz has resigned from his position as President of the Thoroughbred Owners of California. Schwartz indicated that, having given this decision a lot of thought, he felt the time and travel involved were beyond his expectations.  Spending enough time with family has always been a priority, Schwartz commented. He also expressed how much he enjoys being a part of the California racing industry and he intends to continue to be active whenever possible.

Marsha Naify, Chair of the TOC Board of Directors, stated, “We respect Steve’s decision and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

TOC is the official organization serving new, veteran and future Thoroughbred owners in the state. It represents, advances, and protects owners’ interests and rights in legislative, administrative and business matters. Additionally, the organization provides ongoing educational opportunities for current and prospective owners, regularly presenting programs on Thoroughbred ownership. www.toconline.com.

    Real reason please.

  2. ITP Says:

Steve realized in a very short time that having to constantly deal with the dolts involved in CA racing would take a minimum of 20 years off his life and possibly make him a permanent resident of a local mental hospital.

  3. Joe Says:

CA is in deep sh*t and will continue to fall until or unless it is willing to face its biggest problems: the proliferation of cheating and abusive owners and trainers, lame horses training and racing on drugs at all levels and the high injury rate.

It will be interesting to see whether the TOC addresses its biggest problems during its February 13 meeting at Santa Anita or major issues continue to be avoided.

  4. Joe Says:

sorry… or IF major issues continue to be avoided.

  5. One For the Good Gals!! Says:

way to go, Marsha and Maddy!! no way the TOC or CA racing was going anywhere with the likes of Steve “Pottymouth” Schwartz at the helm. these ladies are showing a keen eye for character…….or lack thereof. well done. and good riddance.

  6. ace Says:

Maybe they should appoint Jamgotchian president. Seriously.

  7. Clem Clemson Says:

The TOC searched fr months for a replacement for Drew Cuoto. It seems highly improbable that Mr. Schawrtz would tender an immediate resignation in order to spend more time with his family. That dog does not seem to hunt. For the President of a company to resign in such fashion, it can only mean that the Board of Directors gave him a pen and said “Sign this resignation or else.” Wow. I wonder what the “or else” was. It must be pretty serious. From the sound of it, I wonder if they had two security guards walk him to the door, and this guy is a lawyer.

  8. ace Says:

    I vote for this-
“You are the biggest bunch of idiots I ever worked with-bye bye.”

  9. Joe Says:

Not just Santa Anita is under water, the whole enchilada is. So many broodmares and babies have be trucked out of the state by meatmen since 2007, there won’t be many 4 legged horses left to fill races. Still, I vote for Jerry Jam as head of CHRB (he would LOVE it!) and TOC since CA racing has never seen conflicts of interest it didn’t like. Jerry Jam has the cajones to face problems and force change so he is a pariah but it’s time for drastic change: Go Jerry Jam, go!

  10. Joe Says:

    sorry… have been trucked

  11. ace Says:

Joe-this statement-”So many broodmares and babies have be trucked out of the state by meatmen since 2007″-babies Joe?
    U must be kidding.
Please go picket greyhound racing buhbye.
