PARAGALLO HORSES SCRATCHED IN DELAWARE

By Ray Paulick
Officials in Delaware have ordered two horses owned by the Paragallo family be scratched from races at Delaware Park on Monday. The horses, Another Hades and Pink Viper, were entered the name of Nob Hill Stable after formerly racing for Paraneck Stable, the operation that is listed as being owned by Kristin and Jennifer Paragallo, daughter of Ernie Paragallo.

Paragallo was recently charged on 22 criminal counts of animal cruelty at his Center Brook Farm in upstate New York. As a result of the case, in which scores of horses were found malnourished, the New York State Racing and Wagering Board launched an investigation into the Paragallo family and the roles of the father and the two daughters in Paraneck. Paragallo had his owner’s license revoked in 2005 for financial irresponsibility, but he was allowed to be licensed as authorized agent for the stable. The New York Racing Association banned Paraneck horses from running at its tracks until a new authorized agent is approved, one who is not related to the Paragallos and has not worked prevoiusly for the operation. The Paulick Report reported Friday that Melville, N.Y., attorney Robert Savitsky has applied for a license as authorized agent to the newly formed Nob Hill Stable, but that application has not been approved by the SRWB.

Delaware Racing Commission executive director John Wayne confirmed the scratch of the two horses from Monday’s racing program but could not comment because the matter was still under review.

keep the heat on ‘em, ray.

  3. Richard Coreno Says:

Without the report from a few days back, they would have been circling the track in the afternoon. The illegalities that continue in this industry is destroying what little - very little - credibility is left.

  4. Malcer Says:

Thanks for not donning the Derby blinkers and raising a stink.

  5. How bout that? Says:

When are people in this industry and official positions going to figure out the eyes of America’s racing people are on them. They are tired of eating crap, while the guy in front of them gets steak. They are not going to take it anymore. Somewhere, somebody is going to point out what’s not right from here on out. You racing officials need to get out ,or start doing things by the rules. And not YOUR rules. The ones that are SUPPOSED to apply to EVERYBODY!! Do you even know where the rule book is kept anymore. In the trunk of your car perhaps? Your days of laughing at the little guys that you make abide by a different set of rules are coming to an end. For crying out loud, can we get some people with some integrity? Thanks Paulick!!!You are becoming a changing force.

Agreed. When will they get a clue?
Quit wailing, moaning, beating your chests and crying, “What is wrong with racing? Why is the popularity waning?”
You know why. Bull crap like this. Now get the wheelbarrows out and clean this up.

    Thank goodness for Ray.

Still waiting to hear John Wayne, Exec Director of the Del Racing Commission’s explanation on how theses horses passed the entry box?

  8. Mr. Ed Says:

and there is Going Hungry, on the stretch, followed by I Got Lice. Just an Infection falling behind….I wouldn’t let him or his family race horses no where….world wide. The shame…. if he can’t race them he’ll sell them to a KB. Save the Horses

  9. NEW YORK FAN Says:

    Ray,

Why don’t you some constructive reporting and find out how the NYSRWB appointed a chairmen who was convicted for drunck driving in Feb of 2008. How was this possible that a convicted drunk driver was appointed to such a prestiges post with that kind of record. Once a drunk always a drunk, PLEASE FIND OUT HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN, how can he uphold laws when he can’t follow them, this is a travesty.

  10. Ray Paulick Says:

New York Fan: I’m not going to make any apologies for SRWB chairman Sabini, who was arrested for driving under the influence but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and had his license suspended six months.

However, drunk driving arrests sadly are part of our society. President George Bush and his Vice President, Dick Cheney, both were arrested for drunk driving, Cheney on two occasions, according to published reports. I believe people deserve second chances.

  11. Al Says:

Who back New York Fan! Sabini was essentially followed out of the bar and tailed by the NY “rogue” police that is being investigated by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. When that investigation of the rogue police unit is complete, my guess is many NY agencies and franchisees will suffer from cold sweats.

you people are f^%$#@! amazing …Ray…cut em off

  13. Ajuell Says:

Boy did this discussion take a left turn. The only relevent connection between Paragallo and Sabini’s DUI would be if Another Hades and Pink Viper happened to be in back seat. Then it would be a DUI combined with a contributing charge since both horses are under 21.Non-sequitor fellas.
Take the postive here — one commission actually upheld another. Baby steps.

  14. ktq Says:

When I read this I immediately emailed the track and sent them my thoughts on this whole Paragallo story, as both a race fan and owner. Thanks Ray for keeping us in the loop so those of us that really do care about the horses’ care and integrity of the sport can speak up in these cases.

  16. Reality Check Says:

Keep it up Ray! Why can’t anyone find out the new date for Paragallo’s hearing in front of the judge? The public should have notice of the hearing so they can attend. The racing commissions and the individual racetracks are the only ones who can do anything to prevent Paragallo from racing/owning horses. Will they end up at the KB auction too?

NY law is ineffective. An example is the cause of Geraldine Truipa, who starved 82 horses, was allowed to plead guilty to two counts. Her sentence: 3 YEARS PROBATION! and she is not allowed to work around domestic or companion animals. She even balked about paying $45,000 in restitution for the horses care even though many were still in foster homes. There was no mention in the article that she was prevented from owning or caring for a horse, just couldn’t be employed around. See pet abuse for more info: http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/14484/ Please keep it up Ray, there needs to be a way to stop this.
