NY ASSEMBLYMAN ON NYRA: THEY’RE RUNNING AN UNPROFITABLE BUSINESS MAKING EXORBITANT SALARIES
In an article from TIna Moore of the New York Daily News, NYRA got blasted by Assemblyman Pretlow for having excessive salaries. NYRA would counter that in order to bring top people to their organization, they must pay salaries in line with other equivalent companies. What say you?

Who cares how the salaries compare to PROFITABLE tracks. These guys have been for years running a LOSER…mismanaged on the level of OTB… and whining all the way.

NYRA’s foes are being invigorated and rightly so they are circulating NYRA’s wagons. NYRA’s days of thumbing its nose at Albany is over. Expect major changes following these salary revelations and audits. Prosecutions should follow if anything untoward is discovered.

Why did NYRA get a 25 year franchise extension. NYRA claims it traded its ownership of the land for this. BS.
Clearly something else took place here. In this era of transparency the truth will emerge and hopefully the full force of the law will be applied to those guilty of manipulating Albany and in particular Governor Spitzer. Senator Bruno must know what happened and hopefully one day he will reveal the truth as these same forces set in play the storm which forced him from office and now has him facing serious jail time at almost 80 years old.
There must also be someone in the bowels of Albany who is disturbed by what happened here and will emerge with the truth. I hope they know in their heard that this is the right thing to do.

It wouldn’t matter one bit if their collective salaries are 1 billion dollars, if they were making 10 billion dollars.

Unfortunately this is how the world works now. Philosopher Alistair MacIntyre refers to “the fallacy of managerial expertise”.
You should see the salaries some of the clowns that are running the Health Service and Local Governments offices here are getting, never mind the racing bureacracy. If you want to really aggravate yourself have a look at what the heads of various charities are getting.
The notion that there are natural leaders out there just waiting for the call to transform this or that public service or service industry is fatuous. Like bankers these people should all be paid in arrears based upon results - if they were most of them would starve.

they are like most “leaders”in the horse business.Look at the Breeders Cup,NTRA,etc if most of these guys were paid according to performance this game would be full of skinny people.

You posters are CLUELESS.
450k is peanuts these days for a CEO….maybe in podunk where all of the posters in this thread live…but not in NY.
NYRA outhandles all tracks on a daily basis except for big, weekend stakes races at the major tracks, and the boutique meets like KEE and OakTree.
CDI is now a corporation not a horse racing organization. CDI does not publish handle or attendance for ANY of it’s tracks becasue it has taken the position “that P&G doesn’t publish statistics on the boxes of soap powder it sells every day.” No one but CDI knows the daily handle at any of it’s tracks, or IF they are making or losing money. NYRA publishes this data daily. What is CDI trying to hide?
CDI execs get not only 750,000 salaries but generous stock options. NYRA execs get 400k in salary and are constantly castigated by the NY papers to sell papers and to print inflammatory NYRA articles as payment to political pals in Albany.
Look at the corruption in Albany in the Aquagate Casino bid…the accidental governor awards the bid to convicted felons and other shady people who are his pals.
NYRA conducts the best racing is the best in the country…tough drug enforcement, tracks in top condition, and vets that pay attention. Unfortunately, NYRA is controlled by the NYS Gambling department…the same people that run the Lotto. NYOTB had 1BILLION in handle and declared bankruptcy…owning NYRA 14 million. And the NY-OTB has NO expenses except salaries and rent…but I rarely read any negative comments or investigation how the OTB loses money on 1BILLION in handle…
I’m convinced after years and years of reading negative comments and attacks on NYRA, that as usual…folks envy NY…NY’ers, and of course all associated with NY…and that includes NYRA.

#6 and#7 Obviously the “fallacy of managerial expertise” is working!!
The really amusing thing is that once they get on this peer revue roundabout they can slither between jobs and industries with ease; no-one seems to look up their past performances or to question their understanding of the new field.
We’ve had had our share of this at the top of British racing’s bureacracy - they’ve come from from British Sugar, Sarah Lee Cakes, the City and there was even one who subsequently [his profession was accountancy] went on to Enron and failed to notice that anything was wrong according to his evidence! Some expert!
TCurrently we have one from the noble art of football.
