Gavin Landry and Frank Stronach must have been separated at birth.

How else could there be two near-identical pathetic sports promoters?

Let us now compare the efforts of our present-day Barnums (now that Bailey has retired).

A) From a recent Paulick report:

" 'There have been...missteps,' said one longtime NYRA observer... particularly critical of the hiring of Gavin Landry as VP of sales and market development.

"Landry struck a deal with the New York Post to make it the 'official' newspaper of NYRA tracks, which hasn’t gone down well with one trustee of the association. ' For what?' he asked... 'The guy thought he could buy out the press, and (Post racing writer Ed) Fountaine is more critical of NYRA than ever.'

"Fountaine, in fact, has led a chorus of criticism over Landry’s creation of 'NYRA Nation,' a fan club whose benefits...are meaningless to many horseplayers who are more concerned with reducing the takeout.

"Landry also brought in a horse mascot... and named it Auggie, in 'honor' of the founder of the track [August Belmont]."

Last time I checked, the word "august" was synonymous with the word "dignified" - the latter adjective being completely at odds with the cartoon-characterish appellation, "Auggie."

Has anyone checked to see what Landry's Saturday morning TV viewing habits might be?

B) And from Ray's recent article on the Magna executive "revolving door" article:

"As a sidenote, during the time the [MEC] stock price was plummeting, [Frank] Stronach lent his name to a product called Frank's Energy Drink, complete with 'energy girls' and special events, a move that further fueled critics who said Stronach was no longer in touch with what was going on at his racetracks."

Poor Austria - to have been this embarrassed by not one, but two of its native sons.

Could Frank Stronach actually be Gsa Gsa Gabor?

It's math time.

Campbell's start date isn't provided, so out he goes.

Of the remaining top ten names listed, each one served for an average of 12.5 months (125 months divided by ten).

And even that stellar example of executive fortitude and endurance has to be qualified, because Jim McAlpine's astonishing 50 months of service is wildly unrepresentative of the anticipated shelf life (executive residency) in the Magna Rubber Rooms. So out he goes.

Of the remaining nine top names, each one served for an average of 8.3 months (75 months divided by nine).

Even Stalin's individual ministers each had a better shot of survival during the eventual Bolshevik show trials and purges.

The difference being is that in Magna Land, it is always 1937.

It's hard to say who has done the most damage to the sport but over a decade ago when Magna and Churchill became the primary track owners in the country can be looked on as a dark turning.I don't know anything about this Mr. Minor but he can't do any worse than these two companies and it's about time somebody tried to revive the world's most beautiful racetrack

Sure, that's it. Everyone in racing is stupid and Frank is a visionary. Right.

REFINED QUESTION FOR DEBATE:

a) Is Frank Stronach impossible to please?

OR

b) Are we discovering most of the executive pool in racing are just not up to the task?

OR

c) All of the above.
