I've been at Belmont, Monmouth Park and Pimlico on days when no horses died or were injured. The mere fact that no horses died at this year's BC doesn't "prove" anything about the synthetic surface, notwithstanding Randy Moss. The surface advantaged the Europeans and I very much doubt that Tiago (another horse accustomed to synthetics) could have ever beaten Curlin on dirt. That Curlin should lose Horse of the Year because he lost a race on a turf-like surface seems grossly unfair.

Thanks again, Mr. Paulick! A great couple of days. Should add some excitement to the November sales--if anybody has any $$ by then!

So, is Asmussen right? Was the Classic a turf race? The results certain beg the question about whether synthetics (which certainly proved to be safe this day) are something dirt horses can handle, and if this race truly represents a championship race.

It's been a great day for racing but I must admit my disappointment for Better Talk Now's finish and Curlin's. I hope they both come out of their races in good shape.

I love this sport... :)
