Support for Big Brown will develop if he sires good runners.

His problematic hoofs will be passed on along with whatever it was that made him run faster than the other horses of his year and along with whatever made him falter at Belmont. I just hope that if he disappoints at stud, his connections will see to it that he has a safe retirement.

However much some people criticize Big Brown, he brought excitement (and people!) to the tracks where he ran. Dutrow may be a jerk, but Big Brown was good for racing.

As to the Breeders Cup, it will still be great to watch. How about Curlin vs. Casino Drive?

what a joke.....a chewed up foot never stopped them from running the horse before...did it??
In the end their lack of "class" and "sportsmanship" is all that will be remembered. As for Big Brown...I'm sure he'll get a good first book of mares, but there will no real support for this horse. His pedigree is questionnable from a sire power point of view and of course his race record will always be looked at with a "question mark". Is he a good horse...yes, but "great".....we'll certainly never know. I'm amazed that there isn't more talk about Curlin's looming retirement, as he is worth FAR MORE AS A STALLION PROSPECT THAN BIG BROWN COULD EVERY HOPE TO BE!!

And who knows...maybe the real Super Horse just won his 3rd lifetime start on Sunday....

From the pictures, it looks like there was a patch that was close to the quarter he grabbed (all that white hoof on a horse with no stockings). I am surprised he wasn't wearing wraps. Bell boots would have helped too.
Oh well, hindsight is 20/20. He'll heal and go pass on his shelly feet to his babies.

This game is not OK and these equine athletes aren't marketable commodities like rock stars. But the industry is more worried about the breeding shed then the race track and - besides some very rare cases - want to get 3-year-olds off the ovals as soon as possible. Face it, this tragic end of a career means the BC might as well air on Versus, in between a pair of meaningless early season NHL games. There goes all that marketing!

Doesn't BB normally wear those bell bottom rubber things on his hooves? Why not this time?
Has anyone seen the hoof?

Anybody else troubled by this statement: "As long as we continue to advertise and market these kinds of horses, the game is going to be OK."

Not like we should run them or anything, just market the crap out of them.

"He had no front shoes on," Iavarone said in response to a question about whether or not Big Brown was wearing toe grabs for the turf workout. "No bandages, no wraps, no (toe) grabs, nothing."
Was Big Brown wearing toe-grabs BEHIND? Did Iavarone answer the question?

Heartbreaking for the racing world, but thank heavens he will recover to lead a great retirement. Go Big Brown.
