LANZMAN ON IEAH: I HATE THEM MORE THAN I LOVE THE HORSE
There’s no secret that the aftermath of I Want Revenge’s last second Derby scratch has been anything but smooth for David Lanzman and IEAH Stables. What’s shocking is the abject level of hatred being tossed around and the clear and total dysfunction of this partnership.
We could recap it further but the quote above pretty much sums up the whole story.

Who is behind IEAH? They cannot come up with $550K for a Grade one winner and derby favorite? What am I missing?
February 24th, 2010 at 7:57 pm
It would seem that the purse strings (coming from the Caribbean?) for IEAH have been tightened considerably - I’d be interested to see who, exactly, is really making the major decisions at this point.

South of th Border: If you will follow their transactions over the last several years, it is patently obvious IEAH is the tail end of the Bernie Madoff money… when BIG BROWN came to prominence, it was reavealed that Ivaronee, the supposed “wall street wizard”, was a broke clown, yet IEAH still continued to spend, spend, spend, yet NO ONE has stepped up to say, “yes, I am an IEAH investor….” IEAH claims to have all these inverstors…. yet none of them are willing to admit it…. oh, wait, except Jim Taglifiere (sp?) a guy who keeps all his bank accounts in the US Virgin Islands…. hmmm, he must like the sun…

These guys (IEAH) burst on the scene as “Wall Street investment bankers” a few years ago with Big Brown. Turned out they were mostly Long Island low-end stock brokers, but never mind. They announced plans for an “equine hedge fund” that never seems to have gotten off the ground.
But, to their credit, they did somehow finance the building of the Ruffian Equine Medical Center at Belmont, a great facility that gives super equine surgeon Dr. Patty Hogan a place to work on horses from the NYRA tracks. I’m personally grateful for that, as Dr. Hogan did a beautiful job on one of my horses that’s just returned to the races.
But if I were making a deal with them, my mantra would be “show me the money.”

S Zorn, FYI Hogan knew exactly who she was crawling into bed with. It all looked so much more attractive at the time.
February 24th, 2010 at 9:38 pm
IEAH and the arrogant jerk that runs it are ALL that is wrong with horse racing…
February 25th, 2010 at 1:26 am
I wonder if when Ivarone goes out to dinner……does the restaurant have to take him to court for the dinner tab to get paid?
It would be cash up front before he is served at any restaurant that knows him.
February 25th, 2010 at 7:38 am
Those sunglasses Ivarone wears must cost close to $550K. I thought Joe Torre, Joe Pesci and some other big shots were part of IEAH?
February 25th, 2010 at 9:22 am
Is the Ruffian Vet Hospital completely paid for and fully trust funded?
February 25th, 2010 at 9:41 am
I forgot to ask: Mr Lanzman can certainly multi-task, right? It isn’t one or the other, is it?
February 25th, 2010 at 10:04 am
How does the old expression go? If you sleep with dogs, don’t be surprised if you wake up with fleas. Mr. Lanzman should not be the slightest bit surprised.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:54 am
Wait. It may not be that easy to borrow $550,000 secured by a grade one powered by Ikeah winner. Fifth Third is out of the market and banks are currently in their withhold the money and take over everyone’s good assets phase.
Though it is strange the do not just retire the horse and breed him to 100 mares at $15,000 a pop for some walking around money. In America, it is considered unsporting to race a male stud horse after age 3 if it has shown a lot of potential.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:59 am
Off the subject a bit here. Each time i hear of this case i think Pure Clan. Did IEAH put the screws to Lewis Lakin in a partnership with Pure Clan, or did Laken buy them out ? Pure Clan use to sport the IEAH silks and they were listed as Majority owner
February 25th, 2010 at 11:19 am
While IEAH has already been outed as slimeballs, Lanzman isn’t exactly a victim. Any owner who uses the likes Jeff Mullins, who was caught sneaking an inhaler into the NYRA detention barn, and was caught milkshaking horses multiple times - after Greg Martin was thrown out of the sport- deserves what they get.
It’s owners like these - who employ the cheating trainers- who ruin the sport.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:20 am
IEAH was banking on a Big Brown payday. If they horse is a bust at stud, they’re totally screwed.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:37 am
Frankly, the humans involved are guranteed life no matter how slimey they are…the horse (Big Brown) is another matter. We will see.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:44 am
Exactly, talks about hedge fund + IEAH going public were resting on Big Brown winning the TC and the economy and stock market remaining in bubble territory long enough for IEAH to sell it all and rake in hundreds of millions if not a billion or two. The big plan crashed and burned with Big Brown’s feet and the financial world.
Lanzman picked Mullins. Water seeks its own level between owners and trainers. How long was IWR nursing a bad ankle? Is it why he raced on packed dirt at Aqueduct instead of synthetic at Santa Anita since that surface is tougher on soft-tissue injuries?
February 25th, 2010 at 12:14 pm
I can’t muster any sympathy for any of the clowns in this case. They’re publicly behaving like a petty married couple involved in a nasty divorce.
IMO both parties should just shut up and work this out through the courts without further embarrassing this sport by tossing their childish barbs back and forth in the media.
February 25th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
And still, no answer on the mega special vet center instituted, funded and built by by IEAH in NY.
Wonder if they were doing “derivates” game playing? I guess NYRA will find out, but they ain’t alking.
HRTV just had an interview (squissee, feely) with Bianconne. Excuse me, isn’t he the cobra venom guy? Maybe I’ve got that wrong. Clement…good guy, Bianconne…snake oil salesman.
How stupid our we as fans or industry regulars??????
February 25th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Excuse me, that should have been “derivitives” and I apoligize for my ignorance of French trainers in the US…especially if I got it wrong. I’m a ton of frog from SWLA.
February 25th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Oh crap, many people don’t know what these instruments are, much spell them correctly.
February 25th, 2010 at 3:00 pm
The IEAH hedge fund excluded Big Brown. The final straws of that pipe dream was Iavarone’s being exposed as low end boiler room clerk and the market crash.
February 25th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
It is always interesting to me, that when you read the opinions of people about this group they always wonder where the money comes from. I do not know where it came before Big Browns Belmont, but I feel in my heart they must have left the track with wheelbarrows of the green stuff betting against their horse in the Belmont. When I watched Big Brown in the Preakness I got chills watching him come down to the wire. I thought finally we have the real deal. I still believe he was, but much like “The Natural” the money to be made was to bet against him. I just never thought anyone could get away with it. I was wrong.
February 25th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
To Cris:
\Who was it?…Damon Runyon…or who was it that wrote about the race game in flip reference for Hollywood movie making? Where is the Lemon Drop Kid? This was back in the 30’s and we are still kickin’ this can?
Read the script/story line. Ain’t nothin’ new with the *** or uber fancy gambling organizations and the beauty of pretending to be capitilists.
February 25th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Ivarone is as fake as his tan. Chapter 11 is right around the corner
February 25th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
I just read on DRF that Ivarone is paying the $6K to nominate I’ve Got the Fever to the Triple Crown series.
February 25th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
TheJerk…..Lakin bought out IEAH’s share of Pure Clan. Might I say he couldnt have done it at a better time.
February 25th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
So….let me see if I have the story straight:
No horse.
No owners.
No money.
Nothing to see here folks, move it along……..
February 25th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
All I need to know is if they have a tanning salon in the Ruffian Medical Hospital?
Godbless Lanzman for making all of this public for people like us on the outside.
Its funny that guys like Mike Gill get blasted and clowns like this run around thinking they are sharp. When is the last time Mike Gill needed a bodyguard at a racetrack? I have been to Rockingham on many tims and Mike Gil is always very nice. He wants to win, period
Then you get guys like Iavarone who don’t know anything about racing. Strut around buying horses on others money, and go bust like a reused tire on an 18 wheeler. Gill does this stuff on his own money, he made his own money. He never lied about working at Sachs, while selling pennystock in some boileroom in Queens.
Its ashame the game has to suffer through this. Im questioning if Iavarone is even Italian. Maybe when all the smoke clears we will find out hes Columbian
February 25th, 2010 at 9:51 pm
Vito hit the nailon the head. All you need to know about Iavarone is that he has to walk around with a 350 lb. bodyguard. Do you think its because he is a nice man that has never screwed anybody over before? This clown is the lowest of the low. As for Lanzman, I know people that hang with him and they all say he is a great guy. As far as I know, he doesnt have to go to the racetrack with a bodyguard.
February 26th, 2010 at 7:23 am
Word has it that Dr. Hogan has cut all ties with the Ruffian Hospital because of IEAH’s repeated financial irresponsibility to the local horsemen. I don’t think she is doing any surgery there anymore.
February 26th, 2010 at 8:12 am
Dr. Hogan and Dr. Hunt are both still listed on IEAH’s website. I bet IEAH built the Ruffian Hospital as a form of Insurance Policy for when the @#@# hit the fan.
February 26th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Nobody with any integirty would do any business with these pukes.
