How many days will Del Mar lose?

  2. joe Says:

What will Del Mar look like this year? How low will its claiming races have to go? It is a dangerous vicious circle for horses. A few years ago Del Mar was warned by Hollywood Park that some very “bad” horses were coming down its way and it sure got them. I believe that year was 2006… In what shape will the left-over horses be this year? So many California TB breeding horses and babies have gone to slaughter during the past 30 months, that for that reason alone, the lack of horses will continue to worsen. I am glad that HP is cancelling racind dates instead of begging for horses that should not be running.

Meanwhile, in LaLaLand, the CHRB is scientifically studying how the weather is affecting various racing surfaces with a mechanical hoof and on-track weather stations instead of facing emergencies such as the destruction caused by the barbaric, rampant hot potato game: the dropping of infirm horses in cheaper and cheaper races, the one way tickets “up North” to Golden Gate Fields when horses can no longer stand to run above $6,250 and owners still want a check out of their horses even for $4,000, or the one way ticket South to Los Alamitos when they reach the $2,000 level or the fairs… As long as there is some money to be made out of horses still standing up, they will be shipped and bartered and raced into the ground somewhere. That’s what cheap tracks and fairs are for to extract the last grand out of horses at death door whether it is on or off-track.

What the CHRB owe to do now, is to ban all drugs cold turkey, on race day and at least 20 days before post. Stop the training and racing of lame horses on powerful drugs and the tolerance of thugs. The CHRB must face the abundant red flags and horses begging for protection like Daniella Roth who raced 8 times at 2, 20 times at 3 and she was killed last week while racing for the 16th time this year alone.

Really, what is more important right now for the CHRB to do? To prevent the brutal and deadly management of horses like Daniella Roth who raced on average once every 16 days for two straight years? Or to scientifically study the surfaces once again while solutions for equine injury and death prevention are so damn obvious? The CHRB and all should ban all drugs starting now, detox and save those horses that are left before it is too late for the rest of them.

Glad to see that Martin Panza and the Holly Park crew took all of the monies they slashed from their stakes schedule to support the day-to-day operations. When things were good, no single group boasted more about their success than HP. Now, however, the crew at HP leads the industry in excuses.

    Joe-
I know your heart is in the right place.
    But…
Take your head out of your ass. This is a sport where the horse (and Jockey) is at risk every moment of every race.
    Horses die every single day.
Pain killing drugs and lasix are part of the game and will continue to be-you know why? Because there wouldn’t be half the horses around if they were taken off pain relieving medications.
    This is a business.
These horses wouldn’t be alive if there was no business.

  5. joe Says:

Ace, you are vulgar, heartless and part of the problem.

  6. rwwupl Says:

It is the responsibility of the horsemen(collective) partnering with the racetrack to put on the show, to attract the customers and it appears that the horsemen have put this obligation aside in favor of other benefits to individual horsemen.

I read recently that the Racing Secretary at Hollywood said the inventory of horses was down to 2,800 horses, and 1,300 had not yet run at this meeting. Many race meetings are run with adequate field size with less inventory

What role has the TOC or other horsemens organizations played to encourage cooperation with the racetrack by its members to put on desirable race cards for the public?

Does any horsemens organization have any program to encourage its members to fill the races and put on attractive cards?

Don’t worry joe. The same reasons Ace gives for why those horrors go on are the ones why racing is no longer relevant or worth caring about to popular culture, and why racing will end up like dog racing - too broke to fight and eventually banned - if something isn’t changed. The standard of cultural acceptance for racing’s dark-side behaviors has changed a lot since racing’s glory days. And some still wonder why those glory days are gone.

  8. smithy Says:

thus you have the claiming game and all its cheap races. They are an out for Trainers,Owners, and Tracks who dont give a damm.Drop them till they snap and then blame the surface.

She was killed. Do you have a reference? Not saying that you’re wrong. Just would like to clarify.
    thanks

Mr. Paulick, I am surprised my post was deleted? Utmost respect for you and all I did was post facts about Daniella Roth. Oh well, It is what it is…
