Ray, Brad, have a wonderful day in OK. I look forward to your new videos. I hope that today is a safe one for all stepping on a racetrack around the country. Prayers for the injured.

It's been a really bad year for jockys. I know some of these men and women make a lot of money and they know the risks, but when I read the story about Mark Pace I felt awful. He died away from his family riding for at most a $300 pay check at a small Oklahoma racetrack at age 58 after 10 years away from competitive riding.

When I walked into the clubhouse at Canterbury Park the other night I heard a guy who was losing because of his poor handicapping blame the jockeys. "Sometimes I think they don't even try to win," the fool said. I just shook my head.

Thank God there aren't any dog tracks on the "we must continue onward without detours" scheduled route!

As for the Bouncy Rubber Ball Marathon (are you timed to start exactly when the NYC marathon kicks off on the Verrazano Bridge?)...Things could be worse.

Newsman Hank Greenspun, as a student working in a discount theatre ticket shop in the 1930s, had to ride in a parade on a mule - a PR stunt to publicize an Army-Navy football game.

Behind him were artillery & marching infantry units that his boss conned a base commander into sending to New York City, as part of the unauthorized stunt.

So, if there's an Oklahoma National Guard tank gaining on you at the 8 Pole, bounce harder!
